Sallet Helmet
The sallet, also known as salade or schaller, was a prominent war helmet that succeeded the bascinet in northern Europe and Hungary during the mid-15th century. Often close-fitting with a distinctive pointed tail at the back, some Italian variants included an additional riveted plate following the neck’s shape. Many sallets were paired with a padded gorget, or bevor, offering extra protection for the jaw.
